Community theatre was back in full swing at Furzey Gardens last month.
The Community Theatre group who meet weekly at Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton spent the past few months creating and rehearsing their latest show, The Furzey Forest Folk.
Visitors to Furzey Gardens were treated to the promenade performance and were led around the gardens whilst being immersed in the show.
The play told the story of the forest folk who dwell at Furzey Gardens and two Kings who need to find a peaceful resolution to their bickering in time to celebrate the start of summer.
Jo Griffiths, Drama Facilitator at Minstead Trust, said: ‘The members of the community theatre group have been rehearsing over an eight-week period to create ‘The Furzey Forest Folk’ using devising, improvisation and script skills. They have learnt what a promenade performance is and during the performance, they worked brilliantly as a team and managed to perform with full audiences on both days. They weren’t fazed by the outside space and the whole experience has just added to their theatre knowledge.’
To finish off the show, visitors were able to watch the Community Theatre groups perform poetry, songs and dances that they had rehearsed tirelessly to put together.
We cannot wait to see what the Community Theatre group comes up with next!
Head over to our YouTube channel for a little snippet from the show!
The Community Theatre group provides a great opportunity for adults with learning disabilities to learn and improve their acting skills, grow their confidence and meet new people.
The practical and fun drama sessions are led by a professional drama facilitator and new members are always welcome.
