Our day centre in Southsea, Portsmouth provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities to experience activities that not only improve their health and wellbeing, but also help to build confidence and develop valuable life skills which promote greater independence.
We always welcome an extra pair of hands to help support our dedicated staff run a busy timetable of activity sessions, including healthy eating and cookery, Bike-ability and fitness, music and dance, gardening and woodwork, craft, communication and general wellbeing. With your support and encouragement, you can help the people we support to participate in active, healthy and enjoyable activities whilst also meeting new people, having fun and knowing that you are making a massive difference to someone’s life!
Friendly, kind and approachable, this role requires someone who really enjoys engaging with people and has good communication and interpersonal skills. It would ideally suit someone who is enthusiastic and motivational, yet has the ability to recognise those moments which require patience and calm. As part of a small and happy team, reliability and the confidence to use your own initiative is essential, as is the ability to follow instruction when necessary.
No previous experience is needed as we will ensure you are given all the support and training required to carry out your role safely and effectively, and to make sure your volunteering experience is always a positive one!
Our Portsmouth Day Opportunities Centre is open weekdays only, Monday – Friday, with activity sessions running from 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm. This role could be offered on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis depending on your available time and interests. Please get in touch today to discuss the latest timetable and activities.
(NB. Please note that the activities do change every few months to ensure we continue to offer a wide variety of experiences and different skill building opportunities to those people we support. The session times will remain the same).
